The Southern Crioulo began in 1534 when Portuguese settlers introduced the first cattle into Brazil. Criollo cattle are of Spanish origin; there is little or no difference between them and the Crioulo cattle of Portuguese descent.
Southern Crioulo horns were long, heavy and lyre-shaped.
The Southern Crioulo may have descended specifically from the Alentejana and had characteristics similar to the Argentine Criollo, Texas Longhorn and Romosinuano.
