Franqueiro -bull- Brazil

Franqueiro
(local/other name)

(most common name):
Crioulo Lageano

As an alternate name for the Crioulo Lageano, the name ‘Franqueiro’ is still in use. As a separate breed, the Franqueiro was listed as extinct in 1958.

The extinct Franqueiro breed, a variety of Southern Crioulo, was established from 1880–1900 around the municipality of Franca in the northern part of the state of São Paulo in Brazil.

The extinct Franqueiro breed was considered a good dairy breed at the beginning of the 20th century and probably gave rise to the Crioulo Lageano.

The Barrosa may have played a part in the development of the extinct Franqueiro’s long horns and light tan coat color.
