Luxi
隆林牛
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Shandong
The Luxi, a beef breed, is found in the northern part of Jiangsu province and the southwestern part of Shandong province in China.
The Luxi is very well developed and the legs are well placed. Hoofs are hard and called ‘steel hoofs’ locally.
The Luxi coat of short stiff hair is light yellow to red and brown (sometimes black).
The Luxi is closely related to:
• Wanbei cattle
• Nanyang
• Jinnan
• Qinchuan
The Luxi has both zebu and taurine mtDNA but Y chromosomes appear to be entirely of zebu derivation (autosomal genes are predominantly taurine). There is a hypothesis of a Bali admixture and new SNP evidence supports this (Decker et al., 2014); whether this can be attributed to the banteng or zebu component of the Bali genome is not clear.
