Dabieshan
大别山牛
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Dabie Mountainous
local/other name (English):
• Dabie Mountain
The Dabieshan is small-bodied and has a coat that can be yellowish to blackish-brown in color. Often they will have round white patches along their rump which may be an influence of the wild Banteng.
The Dabieshan can be found in the Dabie Mountain area (located in central China) and the foothills between the provinces of Anhui and Hubei.
Microsatellites show the Dabieshan to be closely related to the Wannan (which has similar proportions of zebu genes). The Dabieshan has also been placed with Jiaxian Red and Qinba cattle.
A variety of Dabieshan is known as Huangpo or Huangpi.
