The Chino Santandereano is a local Criollo cattle variety which may have some zebu blood, but the mtDNA lineages in the breed are all taurine. Other influences are thought to include:
Casanareño
Costeño con Cuernos
Limonero (Venezuela)

The Chino Santandereano is native to the Lebrija Valley, in the department of Santander, which is located in the central northern part of Colombia.

The Chino Santandereano is bred for meat and its bulls are crossed with Brahman cows.

The Chino Santandereano is known for:
• high fertility
• high resistance to heat
• well adapted to hot canyon/valley areas

The Chino Santandereano has:
• very short hair
• red, orange, tan or fawn coat with darker shading
• loose skin
• medium-sized dewlap
• pigmented mucosae
• black ears (often)
