The Waldviertler Blondvieh is a locally derived breed that started as a composite of local strains and Czech red highland cattle. From 1970 to 1980, Glan-Donnersberger and German Gelbvieh were also added to the mix.
The Waldviertler Blondvieh can have a unicolor coat of brown, red, blond or white.
NOTE: The names ‘Carinthian Blond’ and ‘Waldviertler Blondvieh’ (two breeds closely related but conserved separately) have superseded the now historical breed name of Austrian Blond.
