The Carinthian Blond is a composite of Mariahofer, Lavanttaler and other local strains from the Carinthian Basin. There is also influence of the Hungarian Grey.
Carinthia is the southernmost state of Austria.
NOTE: The names Carinthian Blond and Waldviertler Blondvieh (two breeds closely related but conserved separately) have superseded the now historical breed name of Austrian Blond.
