Vorderwald
(most common name in English)

(most common name):
Vorderwälder

The Vorderwald, closely related to the Hinterwald (both are German Black Forest breeds), has a dark red-pied coat and is larger-bodied than the Hinterwald.

The Vorderwald is found in the lower-lying areas of the southern Black Forest and receives support from the government of Baden-Württemburg.

1902 - Vorderwald herdbook established

In 2003, pedigree analysis showed that 16% of the genes in the Vorderwald population were from:
Ayrshire
Montbéliard
Red Holstein

Vorderwald 2003 pedigree analysis also showed that the rate of increase of inbreeding was too high, with 71% of bulls and 37% of cows being inbred. Steps were taken and the situation improved by 2013.

Vorderwälder Fleischnutzung is a pure beef variety and separately identified.
