The Vietnamese, a zebu type, is mainly used for work and can be found mostly in the North Central Coast, South Central Coast, Central Highlands and Red River Delta regions in Viet Nam.

The Vietnamese can be described as:
• small body size
• small ears
• poorly developed hump
• small dewlap
•light yellow to dark yellow coat (usually)

Recognized varieties of the Vietnamese that have varying degrees of Indian zebu influence and are all considered Indo-Chinese in type include:
• Cao Bang
Chau Doc
• Baria
• Lang Son
• Nghe An (or Vinh)
• Phu Yen
• Thanh-Hoa
Tuy-Hoa
