The Chau Doc, a variety of Vietnamese, is a small draught breed and can be found in the Dong Thap Muoi or ‘Plain of Reeds’ area in the Mekong delta; the city of Chau Doc is within the adjacent An Giang province. These cattle are housed at night and graze during the day.
Within the Khmer minority community, the Chau Doc is also used for cow racing.
Chau Doc crossbreeding with Laisind has been official policy since 1993.
