South and West Norwegian
(historical breed name)
(local/other name):
• Sør og vestlandsfe
The South and West Norwegian was an amalgamation of the following local breeds of southwestern Norway:
• Lyngdal
• Westland Red Polled (Vestlandsk raukolle in Norwegian)
• Westland fjord (also Vestland Fjord; Vestlandsk Fjordfe in Norwegian)
In 1989, conservation programs were started for the Vestlandsk fjordfe and the Vestlandsk raudkolle — both breeds have been restored. The Lyngdal has become extinct. The ‘South and West Norwegian’ has been retired as an amalgamation.
