The Pampiano is a crossbreed consisting of Hereford (5/8) and Nelore (3/8).
Although the breed name Braford is the most common for the breed internationally, the name Pampiano is still used locally.
The Associação Brasileira de Hereford e Braford (Brazilian Association of Hereford and Braford) is also known as Criador Pampa Pampiano (Breeders of Hereford and Braford).
(Spanish) Pampa = Hereford
In Argentina, the combination of — ‘Here’ from Hereford and ‘bu’ from zebu — led to the Spanish breed name of ‘Herebu’ (which is no longer in use).
Besides Brazil and Argentina, Pampiano cattle can also be found in Uruguay and Paraguay.
