The Kochi is a strain of the Japanese Brown that is reddish to brown in color with a blackish shading around the muzzle on the bulls. Eyelids, horns, tail switch and hooves are black on both males and females.

The Kochi (as compared to the Kumamoto) provides a more well-marbled beef due to a higher percentage of Japanese Native blood.
