The Ibagé began development around 1940 at a Embrapa (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation) research center known as the Cinco Cruzes Research Station in Bagé in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
A Brazilian breed society that formed in 1979 adopted the name ‘Brangus’ to facilitate international exchange with the USA Brahman/Aberdeen-Angus composite known as the Brangus.
