The Frisia originated from imported Dutch Black Pied cattle in the middle of the 1800s. In the middle of the 1900s, their numbers increased dramatically as living standards rose in Portugal.
The Frisia, also known by the transboundary name of Holstein, is a dual-purpose animal raised mainly for milk yet still able to maintain a good carcass quality for meat.
