Criollo Caqueteño
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Caqueteño
• Criollo del Caqueta
The Caqueteño originated in the Amazonas region, Caquetá Department, Colombia.
In 2020, three researchers from the Universidad de la Amazonia (University of the Amazon) published data on the Caqueteño that was collected over a span of 8 years. According to these researchers, the Caqueteño is the result of the hybridization of three types of Criollo cattle:
• Hartón del Valle
• Romosinuano
• Sanmartinero
The initial formation of the Caqueteño began with cattle from ranches in Tolima Grande. Cattle also were introduced from the provinces of San Martín and San Juan de Arama in the Eastern Plains.
This research concluded that the Caqueteño is predominantly Bos taurus and is considered a Criollo breed.
