• Criollo Chaqueño
local/other name (English):
• Chaco Criollo
The Chaqueño can be found in the southeastern parts of Bolivia in the departments of Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz.
The Chaqueño is one of four Bolivian Criollo breeds and is well adapted to the conditions found in the semiarid thorn forest of the Gran Chaco. Even though the environment is harsh with an acute lack of water during the cold, dry winters, the Chaqueño remains very fertile.
The Chaqueño is selected for fertility and growth with the goal of beef production; cows are milked in the wet season for cheese production.
