The Bolivian Altiplano Criollo is a Criollo beef breed that is well adapted to the highland plain (known as the Altiplano plateau) of western Bolivia.
The Altiplano is where the Andes of South America are the widest and the majority of the Altiplano is in Bolivia. These highland conditions have elevations greater than 3,500 meters ASL. This is also where the capital of Bolivia (La Paz) is located.
The Bolivian Altiplano Criollo is on average a small and poorly developed breed due to the barren quality of the grazing grounds on the Altiplano. In rural villages the oxen are still used for plowing.
(Spanish) Altiplano = plateau, high plain
ASL = above sea level
