Angola - extinct - Brazil

Angola
(historical breed name)
(most common name)

The Angola was a zebu (probably African) × Curraleiro cross developed in the 19th century in Brazil.

Angola unicolored and colorsided coat colors included:
• black
• brown
• red

The African zebu used may have been a sanga imported from Angola — then a Portuguese colony. Hence the name ‘Angola’ and the noted frequency of a colorsided coat (which is also commonly seen in sanga cattle).

The Angola was found in a sub-region known as Sertão in northeastern Brazil and is now listed as extinct in the DAD-IS database.

(Portuguese) sertão = backwoods, outback, brush, hinterland
