Go to Insert - Choose... and insert your image or media of comparable size.

Make it have a border or something but make certain just the image is selected before you got to Format - Advanced - Define as Media Placeholder.

Then, when you hover over the image a message will appear saying:
This image is a placeholder. Drag a new media file here to replace it.
