

Wenling Humped
温岭市驼峰牛

The Wenling Humped originated in Wenling county in Zhejiang province and was described in a book that was published in the fourth year of the Ming Dynasty (1371 AD).
A selection and conservation program has operated since 1955 with the aim to distribute improved animals to small farmers; no details provided. In 2000, a government conservation project for the Wenling Humped was announced.
The Wenling Humped is described as:
• yellow or yellow-brown coat
• thick, downward-sloping horns in bulls
• slim, upward-rising horns in cows
• large hump and dewlap in the bulls
• black tail switch in the bulls
• underside of scrotum is black
• lower parts and inner sides of legs are whitish
• dark muzzle
• whitish muzzleband
Studies of mtDNA and Y chromosomal microsatellites of the Wenling Humped show no taurine influence.
