Vogtländer
(historical breed name)
(local/other name):
• Vogtländisches Rotvieh
local/other name (English):
• Vogtland
The Vogtländer was a variety of the German Red.
The Vogtländer was slowly being lost as a breed due to a policy decision dating back to 1935 that favored the Simmental. Then, in 1991, a new breeding association was established with the hope of saving it. However, by 2009 there were only 40 animals left.
The Vogtländer has finally been replaced with the Simmental and is now extinct.
