The Traditional Hereford was recognized as a distinct breed within the Hereford group in 1996.

The Traditional Hereford has horns, a rich deep-red coat, and is broad-bodied and short-legged.

Breeders of the Traditional Hereford are hoping to preserve its historic adaptability to different grazing systems, meat quality and ease of calving. Animals with no signs of influence from imported breeds are eligible for registration.
