Son Valley
(most common name)
The Son Valley, one of four local varieties of dwarf zebu described by Wallace (1887) and Mason (1988) as being native to Madhya Pradesh, is found in the north along the Son River.
Madhya Pradesh (which means ‘Central Province’) is a state in central India.
The other three varieties of Madhya Pradesh Dwarf Zebu are:
• Ramgarhi (found in East Mandla)
• Khamala (also, Khamla; found in the Satpura range near Betul)
• Mampati (undescribed)
In the 1950s, the Khamala was mentioned as a much smaller-bodied relative of the Nimari and having a yellowish coat spotted with violet-red.
