Simbrah
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Simbrasil (Brazil)
(historical breed name):
• Brahmental (until 1978)
The Simbrah, a cross between a Simmental and a Brahman, was developed in the US Gulf Coast region beginning in the late 1960s.
The Simbrah was first registered in 1977 in a separate herdbook (under the name ‘Brahmental’) by the American Simmental Association.
The preferred Simbrah coat color is red (though not essential); skin color is black or red. White ‘spectacles’ around the eyes is discouraged.
Purebred Simbrah are:
Simmental (5/8) × Brahman (3/8)
A (1/16) admixture of ‘any other breed’ is permitted for breeders to adjust the genotype to suit their systems.
The ‘Percentage’ register admits animals that are at least (1/8) Simmental and (1/8) Brahman — but no more than (3/8) of ‘other breed’.
