The Reyna is a Criollo cattle breed that was developed for dairy by Joaquin Reyna in Nicaragua in the 1920s.

Initial herd characteristics of the Reyna included:
• wrinkles around the eyes and neck
• a sparsely haired tail switch

Selection for breeding the Reyna (until the death of the owner in 1960) included:
• a coat color of red, dark red, or sorrel (light reddish-brown), often with black points
• a wet-season daily milk yield of at least 6 kg
• milk let-down in the absence of the calf

The Reyna was given government recognition as a breed of national heritage significance in 1988.
