Red Sindhi -cow- Pakistan

Red Sindhi
(most common name)
(transboundary/brand name)

(local/other name):
• Las Bela
• Malir (Balochistan province)
• Red Karachi
• Sindi (Brazil)
• Sindhi (Bangladesh)

The Red Sindhi is believed to have originated in Lasbela (a coastal district in Balochistan province) and is also native to western Sindh province.

The Red Sindhi is hardy, heat resistant, and has (for a zebu) superior milk yields.

Red Sindhi crosses developed from 1924 at Allahabad Agricultural Institute (India):
Brownsind - Brown Swiss (3/8–5/8) × Red Sindhi
Jersind - Jersey (3/8–5/8) × Red Sindhi

Even though the crossbred cows produced more milk and were more reproductively efficient — these improvements were not maintained and lactation yields declined in later generations. The same outcome has been observed in many crossbreeding programs of this kind.

The Red Sindhi has also been involved in the development of:
Afghan Subtropical
Australian Milking Zebu
Jerdi ( Brazil)
Laisind (Viet Nam)
Mpwapwa (Tanzania)
Munshiganj (Bangladesh)
Sindi (Brazil)
Taiwan Zebu
