The Northern Dairy Shorthorn evolved from the Teeswater strain of Shorthorn cattle in the upper parts of Teesdale and in the adjacent Pennine dales in the northeastern counties of:
• Durham
• Northumberland
• Yorkshire
• Westmorland
The Northern Dairy Shorthorn is bred only for milk.
