• Manguni (1961–1969)
The Nkone (a name from Ndebele, a Zulu language) became the official breed name in 1967 for cattle that were formerly called Manguni.
In 1838, the Nkone was brought by migrating tribes from South Africa who settled in Matabeleland — a region in the west and southwest of Zimbabwe.
Today, the Nkone has been renamed ‘Nguni’ for use as its transboundary/brand name.
