The Nilo, listed in the DAD-IS database as extinct, was found in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
The Nilo originated from African zebus imported by Emperor Dom Pedro I in 1826 that were crossed with local Criollo cows.
Dom Pedro I, the founder and first ruler of the Empire of Brazil, was nicknamed ‘the Liberator’.
