The Murciana-Levantina is an authentic breed found in the southeast of Spain and is nearly extinct. Multiple ovulation and embryo transfer is being used in an attempt to build numbers back up, however, as of 2019 the population total is only 34.
The Murciana-Levantina was mainly used for work.
Former varieties (no longer surviving as distinct entities):
• Calasparreña - higher elevations
• Lorquina - higher elevations
• Cristiana (or Huertana) - lowlands
• Almanzoreña
