The Kalmyk is a Turano-Mongolian breed.
The Kalmyk is found in the most western part of southeast Russia — on the steppes around the Volga and Don rivers near the Caspian Sea.
Turano-Mongolian, in reference to cattle, refers to a distinctive skull formation that includes:
• a wedge-shaped skull
• a depression on the frontal bone
• a narrow crown
• horns growing straight-up
