The Ji’an can be found in Jiangxi province in the counties of:
• Anfu
• Ji’an
• Jishui
• Qingyuan
• Taihe
• Wan’an

In terms of both mtDNA and Y chromosome microsatellites, the Ji’an has strong zebu affinities and is grouped with:
• Longlin
• Wannan
• Weizhou
• Xuwen

MHC studies point to a close relationship with Nanyang cattle.
