The Indo-Brazilian was initially started as a breed by crossing the Brazilian Guzerá and Gir (and also using Nelore blood to a lesser extent) near Uberaba in southeastern Brazil between 1910 and 1930.

• 1925–1945 - dominated Brazilian beef industry
The Indo-Brazilian is best known for having the largest and longest ears in the cattle world.
The Indo-Brazilian had a population of 80,000 cows in 1991; as of 2017 the population is 900 and they are listed as ‘at risk’ and ‘endangered’.
