‘Guadiana Spotted’ was a local name used as recently as 1995 for a color variety of the Mertolenga.
The town of Mértola is in the Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana (Guadiana Valley Natural Park). Mertolenga with a spotted coat color can be found mostly on the left bank of the Guadiana River in Beja District (formerly Baixo Alentejo province).
