The East Anatolian Red can be found in eastern and northeastern Anatolia, especially in the provinces of Kars, Ağrı and Erzurum. Coat colors are red, bay or grey-black.
The East Anatolian Red is of Caucasian origin and, besides milk, is also bred for research and to conserve genetic resources.

• 2004 - East Anatolian Red officially registered

The East Anatolian Red adapts well to a harsh climate. As of 2021, the risk level for this breed is unknown and no pouplation count is given in DAD-IS.
