The Dutch Improved Red Pied had its herdbook established in 1988.
This breed descended from the Meuse-Rijn-Yssel and was created when milk quotas forced breeders to improve the beef qualities of the Red Pieds in order to use them for maintaining the size of their herds — which had become smaller due to these quotas.
