Dornor mongolyn ulaan
(most common name)
local/other name (English):
• Eastern Mongolian Red
local/other name (Mongolian):
• Дорнор монголын улаан
The Dornor mongolyn ulaan has 2019 listed as its year of origin and was created through selective breeding of the local cattle population and reared under pastoral herding.
The Dornor mongolyn ulaan is highly adapted to the harsh climatic, vegetation and geographic conditions of the Sukhbaatar and Dornod provinces in Mongolia. Access to water is limited; the animals graze all year under severe weather and adverse feeding conditions.
Despite this, the Dornor mongolyn ulaan is reported to have a higher meat yield than the Mongolian.
