Doran
(most common name)
The Doran originated in the 1840s from Durham (Shorthorn) × Criollo crossbreds and is found in the central valley of Costa Rica, and on the slopes of the Irazú Volcano (Volcán Irazú) in the Cordillera Central (a volcanic mountain range).
The name ‘Doran’ is thought to be a localization of the British name ‘Durham’. Not much documentation exists on the breed although they do resemble the Criollo more closely than the Shorthorn.
The Doran coat, inherited from the Durham (Shorthorn), can be:
• white with red speckling or patches
• red pied
• roan
