The Damietta is one of the clearly defined varieties that have evolved from the Egyptian.
The Damietta is found along the Mediterranean coast, mainly in the northeast part of the Nile Delta. From its milk, a traditional soft cheese called ‘Domiati’ is made. (Damietta is also the name of the port city which is the capital of the Damietta Governorate in Egypt.)
The Damietta resembles the Damascus, except their horns tend to be finer and more erect. The coat is usually brownish-red, occasionally with some white. They have been crossed with European breeds (including the Jersey and Shorthorn) since the 1930s.
