The Criollo Ñeembucú is a variety of Paraguayan Criollo found in the department of Ñeembucú which is in the extreme southwest of the Eastern Region (Región Oriental) of Paraguay. This region extends from the Río Paraguay (Paraguay River) eastward to the Río Paraná (Paraná River). The Río Paraná forms part of the Paraguayan border with Brazil and Argentina.
The Criollo Ñeembucú is well adapted to the marshy ecosystem of this area’s flat grasslands. This environment has inhibited crossbreeding with zebu.
