The Burmese Gaur is the name used for both subspecies (Bos gaurus gaurus and Bos gaurus laosiensis) of the Gaur.
As of 2020 in the DAD-IS database:
• Lao PDR does not list the Burmese Gaur; it lists the Kouprey (which is now probably extinct).
• Myanmar does not list the Burmese Gaur; it lists the Mithun.
The Burmese Gaur has a high tolerance for extreme tropical conditions (wet and hot) and bad climates in general. They can also live at elevations of 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) ASL and on land with a slope of 50–60 degrees.
The Burmese Gaur is said to produce ‘good, tasty meat’ and ‘good quality’ leather.
The Burmese Gaur belongs to the Bibovine cattle group. Bibovine refers to several species of large Southeast Asian wild cattle that are closely related to common cattle.
