Apeijiaza

The Apeijiaza is found in the county of Gongbujiangda in the Linzhi region (also called Gongbo’gyamda county in Tibetan) in Tibet, an autonomous region of China on the northern side of the Himalayas.

Apeijiaza cattle are described as having:
• compact body
• moderate-size head
• broad forehead
• long, straight and narrow bridge of the nose
• humps evident in bulls
• usually black-and-white coats
• short horns (relatively slim and smooth)

Apeijiaza mtDNA shows both zebu and taurine affinity; a yak matrilineal contribution is very likely.

As of 2022, their risk status is listed as ‘unknown’ and their last population count was 4,286 in 2006.
