Thamankaduwa
(most common name)
(most common name):
• Kinniya (around Mahaweli Ganga in Sri Lanka)
(local/other name):
• Tamankaduwa
The Thamankaduwa is a cross between the local Sinhala and several different imported Indian zebu breeds similar to the Mysore type. (Exact relations to the Sinhala have not been documented.)
The Thamankaduwa, used for milk and draught, is kept in large herds (up to 300 strong) and is larger than other Sri Lankan zebu cattle.
The Thamankaduwa coat is white in the northeast and grey in color along the Mahaweli Ganga river in central and eastern Sri Lanka.
As of 2021, both Thamankaduwa and Kinniya are listed in DAD-IS, however neither has a population count.
