The students were studying dinosaurs and the different eons, eras, periods and epochs of our planet. Wheee! So we went to town making up a TV station called The CCC which provided Continuous Caveman Coverage and then had different cave characters being interviewed. We also made a commercial for Ice Age Pizza and then answered other pressing issues like why the dinosaurs really disappeared.
There are twenty stand-alone skits in our play and it lasts about an hour what with scene changes and all. The filming was done with a Sony TRV-9 and it was pretty much fresh out of the box. Due to the audience, the camera had to be positioned in one spot and a mic was taped overhead in the rafters. No one really knew how to film and you can tell. Also, the original DV tape sat around for quite awhile and was not cared for as it should have been so you'll see some dropped frames.
Ptime Flies Like A Pterodactyl was written for a cast of seven. All the roles are interchangeable which is a must when working with students. Costumes consisted of all black underclothing covered by fake fur ponchos that were belted at the waist in the front only. The backs of the ponchos hung free and some were decorated with large wooden beads that slid over cut strips of fabric at the bottom. This created a rough primitive-looking beaded fringe of sorts. The fake fur chosen was cheetah, tiger, bear and, of course, cow.
