Press Release: Santa Rita Elementary Students Use Video to Lure Author
Did they do it intentionally? No! Last spring, students of Santa Rita Elementary in Los Altos made an improvised video of Ian Lendler's book An Undone Fairy Tale during an after school program. Their comic interpretation was posted on the Kranky Kids® website and Mr. Lendler was promptly notified of its existence. Little did they know, Mr Lendler lives in San Francisco.
Not only was he pleasantly surprised and admiring of their efforts, he offered to come and talk with the students about writing this children's book they so love and adore.
So (big drum roll and cymbal crash), Ian Lendler will be coming to Santa Rita Elementary on Wednesday, October 22nd (2008) to do an author's presentation and signing of his book An Undone Fairy Tale. There will be no books for sale at the signing, only previously purchased books (from any vendor of your choice) will be signed. This event will also be open to the general public.
Time: 3 - 4:30 pm
Place: Santa Rita Elementary Multi-Purpose Room
700 Los Altos Ave, Los Altos, CA 94022-1631
Event Schedule:
- Each page of An Undone Fairy Tale will be projected on a large screen and Mr. Lendler will read it with the audience.
- Mr. Lendler will then give a talk about writing the book, etc.
- We will open the floor to questions from the audience.
- A very short explanation of Fair Use copyright laws will be given.
- The eight minute film that the students made with Kranky Kids using his story as a guide will then be shown.
- Congratulations will be handed out all around and then Mr. Lendler will sit at a table and sign any copies of his book that the audience have brought with them. (While they line up for that, other Kranky Kids films will play so that siblings and parents will be entertained during the line-up/autographing process.)
- Mr. Lendler will then speak with any reporters that attend.
