Wenshan
文山牛
(most common name)
(local/other name):
• Guangnan
• Wenshan Cattle
The Wenshan is a variety of the Panjiang found in the Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou province, China.
Because the Wenshan was described in early work, it has a long history in the established literature.
In the early 1980s, the Wenshan was used in crossbreeding experiments with Hereford, Aberdeen-Angus and Shorthorn.
Wenshan paternal lineages are effectively zebu; their maternal lineages contain both taurine and zebu. However another breed of this area, the Nujiang, receives almost equal influences from taurine and zebu.
