Ukrainian Whiteheaded -cow- Ukraine

Ukrainian Whiteheaded
(most common name)

local/other name:
• Ukrainska biligolova (Ukrainian)
• Ukrainskaya belogolovaya (Russian)
historical breed name:
• Belogolovokolonistskaya (Russian, until c. 1945)
• Whiteheaded Colonist (until c. 1945)

The Ukrainian Whiteheaded began with Mennonites that settled in Ukraine between the late 1700s and early 1800s.

They supposedly brought with them the Groningen Whiteheaded which was then crossed with the Ukrainian Grey and other local Polesian cattle in Zhitomir Raion and Korosten Raion (about 100 km west of Kiev).

The Ukrainian Whiteheaded is genetically very close to the Ukrainian Grey.

(Ukrainian) raion = district
