Qinchuan 秦川母牛 -bull- China

Qinchuan
秦川母牛
(most common name)

local/other name (Russian):
• Chinchuan’
• Tsin’chun
• Tsinchuan
(historical breed name):
• Chinchwan

The Qinchuan originated in Guanzhong Prefecture of Shaanxi province and is distributed over 27 counties or cities in Guanzhong Plain.

The Qinchuan, a highly regarded beef breed, has been systematically selected since 1949 and spread by AI starting in the 1970s.

However, because of heavy use of imports its status has dramatically changed. Unfortunately, the Qinchuan has a relatively slow growth rate and underdeveloped hindquarters and these factors economically negate its high meat qualities. The Ministry of Agriculture advised the establishment of a conservation program in 2000.

Qinchuan numbers dropped from 600,000 in 1988 to 425,000 in 2006.
