Tarina - cow and calf - Italy

The Tarina (aka Savoy; Razza Tarina and Savoiarda in Italian; Tarine in French) began with imported Tarentaise bulls (from the department of Savoie in France) that were used to improve the local cattle near the city of Turin in the region of Piedmont during the 1800's.

Although a herdbook was started in 1888 - the Tarina was not officially recognized as a breed until 1949.
